Saint Jean Industries joins the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative to promote sustainability in the industry

Our company, Saint Jean Industries, a major player in the aluminium manufacturing sector, recently announced its membership of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). This decision marks a significant commitment by the company to sustainable and responsible practices in aluminium production and continues Saint Jean Industries’ plan to become an “eco-responsible” company by 2039.

The ASI is a global multi-stakeholder initiative that aims to promote environmental, social, and economic sustainability throughout the aluminium value chain. By becoming a member of the ASI, Saint Jean Industries commits to respecting and promoting the standards and best practices established by the initiative, thereby reinforcing its position as a socially responsible and environmentally responsible company.

One of ASI’s key priorities is to ensure that aluminium is produced in a responsible manner, minimizing environmental impacts throughout the production process. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving water, and energy, and managing waste responsibly. By adhering to these standards, Saint Jean Industries is helping to reduce its environmental footprint and preserve natural resources for future generations.

Saint Jean Industries is now a member of the ASI, a first step, but would like to be certified on its performance in the coming months. Saint Jean Industries is currently taking all the necessary steps to obtain ASI certification as quickly as possible. Our Vice President Business Development & Advanced Engineering, Hervé Véricel, had the following to say about this membership and the potential certification of Saint Jean Industries soon:

“Saint Jean Industries wants to participate in a cleaner world, using less resources, less energy and less time. To demonstrate this involvement and to help us to reach this target, Saint Jean Industries wants to join ASI and start the process to achieve the Performance Standard Certification for our headquarter in Belleville, France first before deploying this certification all around the world.”

Finally, by working in collaboration with other ASI members, the company is helping to shape a more responsible and environmentally friendly sector, while strengthening its own competitiveness in the global marketplace.

Saint Jean Industries Changshu : Phase II Project Fondation Ceremony

Belleville-en-Beaujolais, 11/08/2023

Emile DI SERIO, President of Saint Jean Industries; Quindi ZHOU, Mayor of Changshu City; Frédéric PRONCHERY, Mayor of Belleville-sur-Saône; Lu ZHAOYANG, General manager of the Saint Jean Industries Changshu site ; Denis GARNIER, President of CCI Beaujolais; Jacky MENICHON, President of CCSB and Joan VALADOU, Consul General of France in Shanghai, officially launched the second phase of construction of our site in the Changshu industrial zone.

A strong presence in Asia

Saint Jean Industries has been present in China since 2019, with the construction of a site in the Changshu industrial zone. This first phase of construction saw the light of day in early 2020. The total surface area of this first phase was 25,000m2 and the total surface area of the two buildings was 15,000m2. From design to assembly, our Chinese site offers chassis and suspension parts using low-pressure and gravity casting processes, as well as COBAPRESS technology.

A beneficial expansion

In mid-October, we were delighted to launch the second phase of construction at our Chinese site. This second construction phase covers a total surface area of 33,000m2, and will include two new buildings with a total surface area of 25,000m2.

This second phase of construction will be carried out in two stages. First, the blue zone (photo below left) will be built. Completion of this first phase is scheduled for 2025. Once this first construction phase has been completed, the second construction phase will begin, with full completion of this second phase expected by the end of 2026.

The main objective of this extension is due to the arrival of differents projects and new orders. The production capacity of phase I was no longer sufficient and our president Emile DI SERIO therefore decided to expand our Chinese site.

This second phase of construction will also have a new sub-frame production line to allow Saint Jean Industries to respond to new automotive demands on the Asian market given that we already have a site in Germany specializing in BIW parts.

We’d like to thank everyone involved, and especially Wang (Jade) Haodan for the superb organization and for a wonderful day for the Saint Jean Industries group.

Techdays, a speciality made in Saint Jean Industries

The year 2023 was rich in Techdays for Saint Jean Industries. We organized no less than 5 Techdays. Techdays are a kind of showroom at the customer's premises. We visit our customers to show them all our capabilities, our products, our innovations and, more generally, to maintain the proximity to our customers that we consider essential for our company. From April to October, Saint Jean Industries visited Alpine, Renault, Ferrari, AMG and Hyundai.

A desire to be close to our customers

Techdays are one of the ways we share our know-how and expertise with our customers. Rather than waiting for our customers to come to us, we come to them. Our Techdays are tailor-made events that showcase our latest products, processes and innovations.

Created and imagined in the early 2010s by the marketing department at Saint Jean Industries, Covid-19 had unfortunately put a stop to these events in the wake of the sanitary measures put in place. The year 2023 therefore marked the return of these Techdays in physical form.

The many benefits of Techday

  • Comprehensive product presentations: Our experts present almost all our products and their functionalities.
  • Interactive presentations: We offer interactive presentations explaining our manufacturing, testing and quality control processes…
  • Discussions with our experts: You’ll have the opportunity to talk directly to our engineers and automotive safety experts. They’ll answer your questions and explore your company’s specific needs.

We would like to thank all our different customers for their warm welcome and for all the relevant exchanges.

We are very proud and honored to have been able to revive these face-to-face events, and look forward to running them again in 2024.

Here’s an example from one of our Techdays this year:

Saint Jean Industries, a company that puts its trust in young people!

For several years now, Saint Jean Industries has been a trainer and recruiter of young talent in the field of industry, but not only that…

Saint Jean Industries recently set up Saint Jean University to train young people in certain areas of industry. The concept behind Saint Jean University is simple: experts give training to young people looking to learn and acquire knowledge. We wanted to create this because it’s very important for our company to pass on its knowledge and skills to the next generation. The primary aim of Saint Jean University is really to optimise the training of these young people.

Saint Jean Industries also recruits a lot of young people, in particular by taking on a large number of work-study students each year, to ensure that the next generation of staff is in place, but also, and above all, to ensure that the company remains young, connected and at the cutting edge of technology, with young people who are passionate about what they do, willing to listen and hard-working.

In 2 years, Saint Jean Industries has recruited no fewer than 30 work-study students in very different sectors (boiler making, machining, foundry, HR, marketing, project management). Saint Jean Industries wants to remain competitive, and we know that this will be achieved by recruiting young talent. However, Saint Jean Industries has not forgotten its most loyal employees, because we are first and foremost a family business that wants to keep its employees as long as possible.

Saint Jean Industries doesn’t just offer work-linked training, but also keeps track of its young people and, most of the time, offers to take them on. We really want to put our faith in these promising young people.

Below is a link to our latest YouTube video of our work-study students over the last few years to find out more about their feelings and their experience at Saint Jean Industries (I promise they were honest).

A LA DECOUVERTE DE NOS ALTERNANTS – EPISODE 1 – YouTube

A big thank you to Raphaël Michelon, Mathéo Ducrot, Florian Epenoy and Thibaut Martinez for their contribution to this video and also for all the work done by these young people during their work-linked placement and, for some of them, since they were hired.

If you’re looking for a work-study placement or an internship in one of these sectors for next year, don’t hesitate to contact us at the following address: recrutement@st-ji.com

Saint Jean Industries, provider of the “Automobile Recovery Plan” programme

france_relance_trophee-2

Our company, Saint Jean Industries, is one of the reference service providers in the “Automotive Recovery Plan” programme deployed by the government following the crisis caused by COVID-19, which hit French businesses hard.

“France Relance”? What is it?

The exceptional €100 billion “France Relance” recovery plan is being deployed by the government in 3 main areas:

  • Ecology, to support the transition to a greener, more sustainable economy,
  • Competitiveness, to give businesses the best possible conditions to develop their activities.
  • Cohesion, to guarantee solidarity between generations, regions and all French people.

Part of this recovery plan is therefore intended to support investment and the modernisation of industry. As part of this, the Direction Générale des Entreprises (DGE) and Bpifrance are putting in place a call for projects to support industrial investment projects in 6 strategic sectors, including the automotive industry, which is our main business sector.

Saint Jean Industries would like to thank all those involved in the “France Relance” programme for their confidence and support in the innovations and process optimisation of its French plants. This support from the French government is essential to the revival of French industry and to the promotion of French know-how both nationally and internationally.

Our various decarbonation projects

Our various decarbonation projects

For several years now, Saint Jean Industries has been very involved in decarbonation and in the fact of wanting to protect our planet from CO2 emissions as much as possible to slow down global warming. We have thought about different solutions to consume less and to become an eco-responsible company.

We therefore undertook the project of installing several solar panels on our various sites, whether on the roof of our different sites but also by building “solar carpots”. Structures manufactured by our company and set up on the parking lots “employees” of our various sites. An objective to recover the maximum of energy in order to be eco-responsible as soon as possible but at the same time an objective of well-being for our different employees in order to park their car in the shade when they want.

Our project in Changshu

We are pleased to announce the completion of our first decarbonization project with the installation of photovoltaic panels on the entire roof of our Chinese site located in the Changshu industrial zone.

This project, which has been under consideration for many years, has finally seen the light of day, much to our delight.

Our project in Valladolid

In addition, we recently launched another decarbonization project in Valladolid. The entire roof of our Spanish site is being covered with photovoltaic panels. But that’s not all!

In fact, our Spanish site will be equipped with “solar carpots” and work has already begun. This project which is currently in progress should be finished in a few weeks.

And it's far from over...

Indeed, internally, we are planning other decarbonization projects on our various sites such as our site in Germany but also in France on several sites.

Our objective is very clear: to enable Saint Jean Industries to be neutral from 2039 in terms of CO2 emissions.

Saint Jean Industries made of the decarbonation one of its priority objectives because all the group feels concerned by the respect and the protection of our planet which is more and more in danger these last years.

Other projects were obviously thought and started to be set up by Saint Jean Industries with the reduction of CO2 emissions in the manufacture of our parts is the reduction of CO2 emissions per kg of aluminum / kWh.

These projects implemented are the following:

  • Neutrality in terms of CO2 thanks to the supply of decarbonized aluminum
  • Use only low-carbon primary aluminum from renewable energy.

We have several projects allowing the reduction of CO2 emissions with the decarbonization of our products but also with the decarbonization of our different sites thanks to the installation of photovoltaic panel farms.

“We want to participate in a cleaner world, with fewer resources, less energy and less time.”

Emile Di Serio, President of SJI
