Our various decarbonation projects

Our various decarbonation projects

For several years now, Saint Jean Industries has been very involved in decarbonation and in the fact of wanting to protect our planet from CO2 emissions as much as possible to slow down global warming. We have thought about different solutions to consume less and to become an eco-responsible company.

We therefore undertook the project of installing several solar panels on our various sites, whether on the roof of our different sites but also by building “solar carpots”. Structures manufactured by our company and set up on the parking lots “employees” of our various sites. An objective to recover the maximum of energy in order to be eco-responsible as soon as possible but at the same time an objective of well-being for our different employees in order to park their car in the shade when they want.

Our project in Changshu

We are pleased to announce the completion of our first decarbonization project with the installation of photovoltaic panels on the entire roof of our Chinese site located in the Changshu industrial zone.

This project, which has been under consideration for many years, has finally seen the light of day, much to our delight.

Our project in Valladolid

In addition, we recently launched another decarbonization project in Valladolid. The entire roof of our Spanish site is being covered with photovoltaic panels. But that’s not all!

In fact, our Spanish site will be equipped with “solar carpots” and work has already begun. This project which is currently in progress should be finished in a few weeks.

And it's far from over...

Indeed, internally, we are planning other decarbonization projects on our various sites such as our site in Germany but also in France on several sites.

Our objective is very clear: to enable Saint Jean Industries to be neutral from 2039 in terms of CO2 emissions.

Saint Jean Industries made of the decarbonation one of its priority objectives because all the group feels concerned by the respect and the protection of our planet which is more and more in danger these last years.

Other projects were obviously thought and started to be set up by Saint Jean Industries with the reduction of CO2 emissions in the manufacture of our parts is the reduction of CO2 emissions per kg of aluminum / kWh.

These projects implemented are the following:

  • Neutrality in terms of CO2 thanks to the supply of decarbonized aluminum
  • Use only low-carbon primary aluminum from renewable energy.

We have several projects allowing the reduction of CO2 emissions with the decarbonization of our products but also with the decarbonization of our different sites thanks to the installation of photovoltaic panel farms.

“We want to participate in a cleaner world, with fewer resources, less energy and less time.”

Emile Di Serio, President of SJI

Aluminium welding and assembly line for battery tray and modules

Aluminium welding and assembly line for the prototype production of battery trays and modules structure to go in production.

Ilsfeld 16.12.21 – Saint Jean Industries Stuttgart GmbH is upgrading and further expanding its commitment to electric mobility. A new production line is specifically designed for the prototype production of battery trays and modules structures, and subframes in aluminium hybrid construction. The setup of such a production line is another milestone in the company’s consistent orientation towards the needs of e-mobility.

The Saint Jean Group as a chassis and aluminium lightweight construction specialist from France and Tier 1 supplier with 9 plants worldwide in Europe, the USA and China has already been active for over 30 years. With its existing production capacities, Saint Jean Industries Stuttgart GmbH, located in the immediate vicinity of Heilbronn, is able to produce battery carriers with dimensions of up to 3,000 mm in length at short notice.

In the production line, the extruded profiles machined in-house are further processed with all types of castings, including those from the Saint Jean Industries Group, and finished by means of welding, bonding and the latest joining techniques to form the subassembly into the ready-to-install solutions. The prefabrication of subassemblies is carried out by a new robot welding cell that is specially designed for this purpose. The additional welding capacity helps to shorten the throughput times for the prototypes and increases the production capacity in this area.

At IAA 2021, several vehicles were already presented whose battery trays and modules structure came from the prototype line of Saint Jean Industries Stuttgart GmbH. Apart from accomplished passenger vehicles, production is currently underway for vehicles from the commercial vehicle sector.

At the Ilsfeld site, which was founded in 1992, Saint Jean Industries Stuttgart GmbH produces assemblies in aluminium lightweight construction for the automotive industry. The focus is on battery trays, modules structures, subframes and safety-relevant assemblies for the crash areas of vehicles in series production. In principle, series of 1 – 50,000 vehicles per year can be produced, and even more depending on the project. Customers include a number of well-known OEMs in southern Germany, but also various sports car manufacturers in the immediate vicinity as well as in Italy and England.

Saint Jean will be at the Batteries Event 2021

The battery is undeniably the key element of electric mobility. Its weight and price make it the main subject of research and innovation at the moment and for many years to come. And the event “Batteries event”, which will be held in the “Cité internationale” building of Lyon from September 29 to October 1, 2021, is a must to follow the trends and the projects in progress on the subject.

Saint Jean Industries will be present to show how it accompanies the innovation of batteries. The main topics will be lightweighting, safety and thermal management. All of SJI’s efforts are geared towards optimizing the autonomy of electric vehicles. All the production means, whether aluminum casting, extrusion, forging, machining, assembly and many others, are combined to offer the best solution for the battery pack structure. We will talk about the InnoTherMS project and its latest developments.

Join us at this 23rd edition!

Automotive Techdays CARA

The cluster CARA’s Automotive Techdays will take place the 1st of June 2021 for the first time online.

All the innovative companies in Rhône Alpes working for the future of mobility will attend. To better identify the different innovations projects and applications, 3 groups have been created:

Saint Jean Industries will participate in the “Structure & Materials” category to show one of its last innovation : the bi-material brake disk COBADISK. A unique technology taking advantages of the COBAPRESS ‘s mechanical properties in order to offer a lightweight and competitive product.

To get further information and receive the official invitation to attend, please contact us.

COBADISK explain in a few minutes

If you missed the 2020 german event “Leichtbau Gipfel“, it is still possible to see the replay of the Saint Jean Industries presentation about the bi-material brake disk for automotive: the COBADISK.

This innovative technology is simply surprising and a reliable braking solution. It combines aluminium and cast iron in their best usage to maximize the weight saving. That is why the center part of the brake disk, the hub, is made in aluminium thanks to COBAPRESS technology, a cast/forge technology used to get improved mechanical properties. And the brake disc track is made of grey cast iron with a specific design to make possible the assembly of the two parts.

The result: a brake disc with 25% of weight saving compared to cast iron monobloc, and the same level of performance. The design of the hub and track could be adapted depending on OEM requirement in term of braking resistance.
